I went to sleep at 3am last night. I was not really that tired, but someone else insisted that I was and go figure they were right.
I will never tell him that.
The original plan was to wake up at 10am and get ready for the day and then be off for my meeting at noon. With all plans they at times have the potentional of being derailed.
I get a call from my brother who lives in California at around 8am. I thought I was dreaming at first because my ringtone is a nice, lullaby type tune. So I finally force my eyes open and see it is my brother. I was about to ignore it and go back to my la la land when I realized he had also texted me saying he needed some help and then I counted and realized it was 5am in California so it had to have been important.
Back story: My parents divorced when I was in 9th grade and my brother remained in California with my dad while my mother, sister, and myself moved to Louisville, Kentucky. The town we were in though nice and coastal was a blood sucking zone for students. It was the rare few who were able to get out of the community with their souls and morals intact because there was such an allure to the party, bum lifestyle that just happens to live in so many Southern California communities.
My brother has known this about his life for a long time now, but never had the self motivation to get himself out of that environment. Well at 5am his time after a night of not sleeping and being afraid that the drug dealer he owes over $3000 to is going to find him and beat him up he realized that his life needs a drastic change which means leaving Camarillo.
It is now 1:15pm my time...5 hrs after said phone call...and he is on his way to LAX International Airport to hop on a plan to head to Arkansas to live with our mother and sister. I will get to see him next weekend when I head down there to visit. I hope he is taking this opportunity seriously and sees that this may be his last chance because if he can't stay away I do not know what will happen to him in his future.
